SOE-contracted Angola's longest railway opens to traffic on Feb 14, 2015
The Benguela Railway, Angola's longest railway and the main means of transit of Angola's Lobito Corridor, opened to traffic on Feb 14, 2015.
Contracted by China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), the 1,344-kilometerrailway is the largest modern railway project in the country with the fastest designed operation speed.
Valued at $1.83 billion, the line was constructed to Chinese railway standards.
Materials including steel rails, concrete and telecommunication facilities were all purchased from China and the trains operating on the railway were also provided by Chinese companies like CRRC Corporation Limited (CRRC).
