Blue Whale I, the world's largest dual-derrick semi-submersible drilling platform, was delivered to its buyer on Feb 13, 2017.
Built by CIMC Raffles Offshore Engineering Pte Ltd (CIMC Raffles), a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, Blue Whale I started operation immediately after delivery.
The platform is 117-meter long, 92.7-meter wide and 118-meter high. It can operate in 3,658-meter deep sea and drill as deep as 15,240 meters.
An example of the best design and construction of its kind, the platform can work in global deep-sea regions in the world and is proof of the competitiveness of China’s deep-water oil and gas exploration and development capacity.
