Asia's largest mountain photovoltaic power plant began service on Feb 5, 2013

All photovoltaic modules of the Weide photovoltaic power plant of China Huadian Corporation Ltd. (CHD) in Yunnan Province started operation on Feb 5, 2013.

Located in Weide County, Chuxiong Yi Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan Province — an area rich in solar power — the plant is the largest mountain photovoltaic power plant in Asia.

With an installed capacity of 40 MW and covering 1,356 mu (90.4 hectares), the project's first phase was a demonstration for construction of large-scale grid-connected photovoltaic power stations in China's mountainous areas. It promoted development of solar photovoltaic power and equipment industries in Yunnan.
