Central SOEs Support Network Construction of Anti-Coronavirus Hospitals in Wuhan

Updated: 2020-02-02

Some central SOEs have demonstrated their devotion to communication and network construction of the two makeshift hospitals for fight against novel coronavirus in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei Province.

The enterprises include China Tower Corporation Limited (China Tower), China Mobile Limited (China Mobile), China United Network Communications Group Co., Ltd. (China Unicom), China Telecommunications Corporation (China Telecom) and China Information Communication Technologies Group Corporation (CICT).

The Huoshenshan and Leishenshan hospitals under construction in Caidian and Jiangxia districts in Wuhan are intended for reception and treatment of novel coronavirus patients. Their construction was announced by the municipal government on Jan 23 and 25.

The two hospitals follow the model of the Xiaotangshan Hospital in Beijing which was erected in 2003 for SARS patients.

China Tower participated in the construction of the hospitals' base stations and China Unicom shouldered the mission of wireless network and network capacity installation and expansion.

It is expected that the Huoshenshan Hospital will cover about a 500-meter radius with 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G internet via four newly constructed and renovated base stations, and will meet the mobile internet needs of nearly 20,000 people.

China Mobile and China Telecom also played a significant role in supporting the hospital's communications construction, particularly of its 5G network.

China Mobile's Wuhan branch started cable laying, base station construction and facility adjustment on Jan 23, the Spring Festival Eve, and completed the first 5G base station of the Huoshenshan Hospital on Jan 25.

Later, expansion and construction of 5G offices will be undertaken together with that of the Leishenshan Hospital and are estimated to complete in only one day.

According to the company, more than 25,000 people are expected to use online communications simultaneously when the Leishenshan Hospital opens for service.

China Telecom was responsible for one 4G and three 5G wireless networks in the Huoshenshan Hospital with base stations completed and entering operation on the morning of Jan 26.

CICT contributed a great deal to emergency communications during the two hospitals’ construction and guaranteed stable sharing of medical information.

The company donated OTN and PTN facilities, arranged plans and prepared production of the needed devices to guarantee a smooth transmission network and a dedicated and stable medical line.

In addition, it joined hands with Wuhan branches of the three operators to support ongoing construction.
