China's first high-throughput communications satellite delivered on Jan 23, 2018

China's first high-throughput communications satellite, Shijian-13, was delivered in orbit on Jan 23, 2018, greatly improving the Internet experience in vehicles such as airplanes and high-speed trains.

Primarily developed by China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Shijian-13 was a new generation high-orbit technology experimental satellite independently developed by China.

Its communication capacity exceeded that of all communication satellites launched by China at that time. The satellite realized independent control of its key core processes and marked the entry of China's satellite communications into the era of high throughput and electric propulsion.

It was the world's first bi-directionalcommunication test with high-speed laser of a high-orbit Earth satellite.

World's largest ship lift goes on trial on Jan 23, 2018

On Jan 23, 2018, the Xiangjiaba ship lift, the second titanic ship lift built by China Three Gorges Corporation after the Sanxia ship lift, began trials.

The maximum lifting height of the machine is 114.2 meters, the highest in the world, and its maximum lifting weight is about 1,000 tons.

Its construction greatly improved the navigation capacity of ships in the gorge, accelerated the speed of cargo transportation and raised the living standards of the residents of surrounding areas.
