The restoration project of the runways and taxiways of Nepal's Tribhuvan International Airport was completed and the upgraded facility delivered to its buyer on Dec 28, 2019.
Tribhuvan is the only international airport in the country.
The work was contracted by China National Aero-technology International Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, Ltd.
The restoration project started on Apr 3, 2019, and included renovation of the main runway, taxiways, and other ancillary work such as the installation of runway lights.
It was also the most extensive restoration and upgrading of the airport's takeoff and landing areas since 1975.
At the delivery ceremony, Hou Yanqi, Chinese ambassador to Nepal, congratulated the company on completing the project 128 days ahead of schedule, and stated that the project benefited Nepal's economic and social development, improved its aviation infrastructure and promoted its inter-connectivity.
In addition, the renovated airport will contribute to tourism development in Nepal and deepen bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Nepal.
China National Aero-technology International Engineering Corporation said that it will maintain good and cooperative relations with Nepal in the future and continue to take part in new construction projects with high quality and efficiency.
