China's project on development and application of extra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling platforms wins the 2014 National Science and Technology Progress Award on Jan 9, 2015

China's project on development and application of extra-deepwater semi-submersible drilling platforms won the special prize of the 2014 National Science and Technology Progress Award on Jan 9, 2015.

Jointly developed by many units including China National Offshore Oil Corporation, the project has a 100 percent success rate in high temperature and pressure well drilling.

The system shortened the average drilling period of each well from 175 to 52 days and lowered drilling costs by 50 percent.

Several indexes of the system also reached internationally leading levels.

The technological system was installed on HAI YANG SHI YOU 981, China's first domestically designed and constructed sixth -generation deep-water semi-submarine drilling platform.

The technology had also driven construction of manufacturing bases for many marine engineering programs and promoted China's advanced marine engineering equipment and materials to go global.

First squadron in Shanghai since the founding of the People's Republic of China, launched on Jan 9, 1957

The predecessor of China Eastern Air Holding Co. Ltd (China Eastern), the first squadron in Shanghai since the founding of the People's Republic of China, opened its first air line on Jan 9, 1957.

There were only seven aircraft and 28 pilots, machinists and radio operators when the squadron was launched.

China Eastern is currently the world's seventh -largest international airline with more than 600 airplanes and nearly 98,000 employees.

Over 100 million passengers have flown on China Eastern flights.
