UHV AC demonstration project with the world's highest operating voltage and most advanced technologies goes into operation on Jan 6, 2009

The 1,000 kV southeastern Shanxi-Nanyang-Jingmen ultra-high voltage (UHV) alternating current (AC) demonstration project was completed after four years of construction and began operation on Jan 6, 2009.

With proprietary intellectual property rights, the project has the world's highest operating voltage and the most advanced technologies.

Its operation was a milestone of China's development in core technology of long distance, large capacity and low loss UHV power transmission and a breakthrough in domestic development of related facilities.

In fewer than 10 years, China's UHV transmission grid had reached the internationally leading level and was titled "a key milestone in the world's power industry development" by the International Council on Large Electric Systems.
