First stations of the west-to-east electricity transmission program start operation on Jan 3, 2001
The Tianshengqiao I and II hydropower stations, the strategic extra-large backbone plants of China's west-to-east electricity transmission program, connected to the grid and began operation on Jan 3, 2001.
Linking points for grids to Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangdong provinces as well as the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the two stations completed the southern passage of the program and contributed to the country's sustainable social and economic development.
An iconic project of China's western development drive, the west-to-east electricity transmission program had the most investment and the largest work amounts compared to other programs of the project.
The transmission program's construction scale of power sources and grids was also the greatest ever in China.
