China Develops Its First Large-scale Offshore Hydraulic Pile Hammer

Updated: 2020-01-02

China's 2,500 kJ hydraulic pile hammer with complete proprietary intellectual property rights sunk its first foundation pile on Dec 28, passing third party authentication.

It was proof that the largest China-made hydraulic pile hammer for offshore operation was a part of the country's ocean engineering equipment.

The hammer, first tested in 2018, was developed by China Forging Machinery Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Beijing Research Institute of Mechanical & Electrical Technology, China Communications Construction Company Limited and Jiangsu Longyuan Zhenhua Marine Engineering Co., Ltd affiliated to China Energy Investment Corporation.

It has been selected as the first major technical equipment of the national innovation demonstration zone by the Beijing government and the administration committee of Zhongguancun Science Park.

The hammer will play a significant role in improving China's oceanic industrial equipment and marine resource development capacity.

It is also a result of practical cooperation between industries, colleges and institutes. Its developers will continue to manufacture large-scale hydraulic pile hammers for offshore operation and improve their supporting capacity to contribute to the Belt and Road Initiative and China's strategy of becoming an ocean power.
