Luoyang Yellow River Highway Bridge opens to traffic on Jan 2, 1977

The Luoyang Yellow River Highway Bridge, a main passage to cross the Yellow River, opened to traffic on Jan 2, 1977.

The bridge is 3,428.9 meters long and 11 meters wide, and was the longest highway bridge in China at that time.

Luoyang, Central China's Henan Province, rapidly evolved into an emerging industrial base after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Ease of connection between the two banks of the Yellow River became a significant issue.

Nowadays, China-made bridges account for nearly half of the world's bridges. The industrial chain integrating front end design, materials, engineering and equipment is going global, which is a reflection of China's range of manufacturing.
