The rotor of the conventional island's generator at the Karachi K2 project in Pakistan, the first overseas reactor of Hualong One, was successfully installed on Oct 8.
All major devices have now been installed and are ready for cold testing.
Massino Aparo, deputy director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), undertook a nuclear fuel security management inspection on Oct 11, during which he praised the installation work of the major devices and their safe construction.
He said that the scheduling of Hualong One is ahead of other countries' projects of the same kind and that the project does well in security reviews.
The Hualong One generator is composed of many parts including stators, rotors, end caps and bearings. Installation of the rotors is the most important step, according to the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC).
The steam turbine generator unit of the K2 conventional island was designed and supplied by Shanghai Electric. The 186-ton machine is 14.9 meters in length and 1.77 meters in width.
Hualong One deploys China's third generation nuclear power technology with completely independent intellectual property rights and is a major iconic achievement of the country's nuclear power innovation.
To date, four demonstration projects of CNNC's Hualong One are under construction. They are also the only on-schedule third generation pressurized water reactor nuclear power programs in the world.
The Karachi K2 and K3 are overseas model EPC programs of Hualong One and a key construction in a country involved in the Belt and Road Initiative.
