Hao Peng Attends 2019 Summit on Chinese Central SOEs Supporting Macao as Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries

On Oct 16, the 2019 Summit on Chinese Central SOEs Supporting Macao as Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, jointly sponsored by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) and the Macao SAR government, opened in Macao.

Hao Peng, Party Secretary of the SASAC CPC Committee and Chairman of SASAC, attended the summit, at which he delivered a speech stressing further implementation of the spirits of President Xi Jinping's important speeches, deepening high-level practical cooperation with Macao, promoting central SOEs' support to Macao's economic together with social development to a new phase, realizing a new level of opening-up and cooperation, contributing to the smooth and long-term implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy in the region.

He pointed out that from Macao returned to the motherland, SASAC and central SOEs have made great efforts in supporting its economic and social development and helping it improve its residents' livelihoods. Since the summit in 2017, central SOEs have set Macao as a pivot to completely deepen cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries in fields like energy resources, investment and infrastructure construction. The cooperation has made significant achievements and greatly promoted local economic and social development.

Hao emphasized that Macao plays a unique role in the implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle. As this year marks the 20th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, SASAC and central SOEs will thoroughly study and act on the spirits laid out in the important speeches of President Xi, making full use of Macao's role in China-Portugal platform. They will draw on the region's innovation strength, special industry, and central SOEs' advantages to increase cooperation on joint building of the Belt and Road and construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area as a technological driving force. They will promote long-term prosperity and stability in the region, enable it to better follow the country's development and support the Macao SAR government and all parties in the region to elevate the success of "one country, two systems" to a new level.

Before the summit, Hao and Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Chui Sai On held discussions in which Chui mentioned that since Macao returned to the motherland, central SOEs have actively supported Macao in implementing the "one country, two systems" policy as well as the policy of Macao people governing Macao and a high degree of autonomy in the region. Central SOEs have also played important roles in promoting Macao's swift economic growth, improving local livelihoods, and creating a stable and harmonious society. He also expressed his hope for further cooperation and better achievements.

Hao outlined the investment central SOEs have made in Macao and briefed that SASAC and central SOEs firmly support Macao's implementation of the "one country, two systems" policy and will fully use the China-Portugal platform to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Portuguese-speaking countries, support moderately diversified development of Macao's economy and contribute to the region's long-term prosperity and stability.

Hao also held a seminar with Fu Ziying, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR and attended the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Nam Kwong (Group) Company Limited.
