Asia-Pacific Region's Largest Offshore Wind Turbine Completed

Updated: 2019-10-16

Two wind turbines, one of 10 and the other of 8 megawatt capacity, rolled off the production line at CTG Fujian Offshore Industrial Park Management Co., Ltd. on Sept 25.

The 10-megawatt one was developed by Dongfang Electric Corporation and has complete proprietary intellectual property rights. It has the largest installed capacity of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region and the second largest in the world. It has excellent initial typhoon resistance.

It is estimated that the turbine can produce 40 million kWh of clean electricity per year in 10 m/s wind weather, which equals the power generated by 13,000 tons of coal and eliminates emissions of 35,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

The development of the 10-megawatt offshore wind turbine is proof that the company is able to develop and manufacture high-power offshore wind turbines.

China Three Gorges Corporation contributed to development of both turbines which have better environmental adaption, more reliable devices and higher utilization rates of wind power.

According to China Three Gorges Corporation, a sponsor of the industrial park, the two turbines are milestones in China's domestic offshore wind power manufacturing industry and proof of the country's highest technology and independent innovation capacity in this field.

The two turbines are expected to be installed in the second phase of the offshore wind plant in Xinghua Bay in Fuqing, Fujian Province. Mass production of the turbines will be planned when they pass testing.

Later, they will be promoted in wind farms in open seas near Changle and Liuao in Zhangpu.

CTG Fujian Offshore Industrial Park Management Co., Ltd. is a world offshore wind power industrial cluster integrating technological research and development, facility manufacturing, detection and approval, construction and installation, as well as operation and maintenance.

Some wind equipment has been mass produced by companies in the park and sold at home and abroad.

The park has contributed to lowering offshore wind equipment manufacturing costs, improving equipment performance and operation efficiency and promoting economic growth and industrial upgrading in Fujian Province.
