CRCC Contributes to Angola's Regional Economic Development

Updated: 2019-09-25

The completion ceremony of the Gabella Highway renovation project was recently held in Cuanza Sul, Angola, marking the opening of the highway.

Contracted by China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), the 35-kilometer highway is a major road connecting Gabella and Koitiandt in the region.

The double-lane highway was built to South African standards.

During the construction, the construction team conquered difficulties such as lack of materials, hard transportation, network communication obstruction and long rainy seasons to ensure on-schedule completion of the project.

At the ceremony, the project was highly spoken by people from all walks of life in Angola.

Manuel Tavares de Almeida, minister of national and public construction of Angola, said that the Gabella Highway will play a significant role in the region's economic development and be a "lifeline" of economic and trade meeting the needs of local people.

The area the highway traverses has rich soil and is home to abundant natural resources. Its coffee output ranks second in Angola. Therefore, most of the local people are farmers.

The highway is now a trading passage which improves transportation and drives regional economic growth.
