Localized Management Revs up China-Africa Friendship

Updated: 2019-08-15

Benefiting from increasing China-Africa cooperation and localized management, more and more African people are joining Chinese SOEs.

Enock Kashero, a Kenyan with eight years of learning experience in China, recently shared his excitement of becoming a regular employee at PowerChina Hubei Engineering Co., LTD.

As the first foreign permanent staff member of the company's branch in Kenya, Kashero expressed his gratitude to the company for offering him a chance to realize his dream.

Kashero's parents are both professors at the National University of Mombasa and have their own business in this city, the second largest of Kenya.

Influenced by his parents, Kashero and his siblings studied abroad instead of staying in Kenya, and Kashero chose to study in China.

He got his master's degree from Tianjin University in 2017 and returned to his country, working at PowerChina Hubei Engineering Co., LTD as a business manager in Nairobi.

At that time, Kashero was a freshman in the power industry. His diligence and sense of responsibility won him the trust of his colleagues.

In order to quickly become familiar with the job he usually travelled between cities for business with the Chinese staff members, using his status as a native to help with negotiations with the local people and the government, which saved a lot of cost for the company.

He also helped the Africans understand differences in life and work between the two countries and sought solutions.

His work involves many fields including engineering, legal affairs, finance, registration and qualification.

Kashero said he feels respect, bravery, discipline and inclusiveness when working at the company, which are features of China-Africa cooperation.
