CGS Gears up Reliable Power Supply to Macao

Updated: 2019-07-11

The 110kV power transmission line upgrading, part of the 220kV Fenghuang transmission and substation project, and the 220kV Diequan transmission and transformation project went into operation respectively on June 28 and 30.

They were constructed by Power Grid Corporation Zhuhai Power Supply Co. Ltd. of China Southern Power Grid (CSG).

Both projects are parts of the Zhuhai guaranteed power grid.

Five new additions to Zhuhai's power grid have gone into operation so far this year, which optimized the grid for the city's main urban areas and improved reliability of power supply to Macao.

Supporting power supply in main urban area

Zhuhai's guaranteed power grid project is a major program initiated by the Zhuhai bureau of CSG after Typhoon Hato in 2017.

It is scheduled to be completed in three stages in 2018, 2019 and 2020.

According to the company, all constructions of the 110kV overhead power lines in the main city and renovations of wind reinforcement of all of Zhuhai's main 220kV and 110kV overhead lines will be completed by 2020.

The actions will better the security of power supply in the city.

To lower the negative impact on residents' traveling and guarantee environmental protection, the work was undertaken in off-peak periods and staff members were on duty at all times to ensure high-quality and civilized construction.

Improving security of power supply to Macao

The Diequan transmission and transformation substation is now the third 220 kV substation in Hengqin New Area. It greatly improved reliability of power supply within the district and in Macao.

During the construction of the 220 kV Diequan transmission and transformation project, management technologies like "cloud, big data, Internet of Things, mobile internet and smart city plus Building Information Modeling (BIM)" were used to monitor and control all kinds of engineering factors.

"Sponge substations" were also introduced to the construction in response to Hengqin's "Sponge City" development mode.

The mode requires using water-permeable eco-grid bricks, roof gardens and rain gardens as well as other methods to improve flood prevention and control capabilities of the region.

In addition, the Zhuhai section of the third channel of the transmission of electricity to Macao passed inspection in June. The 10.75-kilometer section starts at the 220kV Yandun Station in Zhuhai and ends at the 220kV Bei'an Station on the offshore islands of Macao.

The overall capacity and reliability of the power supply to Macao will be greatly improved when the section is completed.
