The voltage regulator of the Karachi project in Pakistan (K3 project) was completed and shipped to its buyer on June 28.
Manufactured by Harbin Electric Corporation (QHD) Heavy Equipment Company Limited, the regulator of the K3 project is a key facility to control the primary circuit pressure and offer over-pressure protection.
The vertical stabilizer is designed in the shape of a bell jar. It is about 13,763 mm long and weighs about 104 tons.
The top of the regulator features five valve end connections, one spray nozzle, one manhole collar and 84 electric heating elements. A single surge nozzle can be found at the bottom.
During the manufacturing, the company conquered technical difficulties including surfacing of the shell cover and the wall of the cylinder body, processing of the electric heating casing's cold charge hole and welding and installation of the electric heating elements.
Being an important part of the exported "Hualong One" nuclear generator unit, the stabilizer is the last product Harbin Electric Corporation (QHD) Heavy Equipment Company Limited contracted to manufacture for the K3 project.
In the past five years, the company had produced all the main equipment of the K2 and K3 nuclear power projects, which included steam generators, regulators, PRS heat exchangers, PCS heat exchangers and residual heat removal exchangers, all delivered on schedule.
Harbin Electric Corporation (QHD) Heavy Equipment Company Limited has mastered the manufacturing of the supporting facilities through self-development, technique introduction and innovation and technique optimization.
In addition to those technologies, the company also made breakthroughs in many other key technologies such as nickel base alloy surfacing of the vapor generator's tube plate, production of control components, expanded welding of the joint between the tube and the plate, tube indentation prevention technology, and welding and anti-deformation technology of horizontal supporting junction plates.
The steam regulator was selected as one of the first and main technical equipment products in key fields in Hebei province during the manufacturing.
The completion of the products for the K3 project played a significant role in promoting the company's development and improving its status in the nuclear power equipment market.
Meanwhile, the company also made contributions to improving China's nuclear power facility manufacturing, driving China nuclear power facilities to "go global" and developing the overseas nuclear power equipment market.
It was also a result of the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative and China's nuclear power's "going global" strategy.
2019 is a key year of the "Hualong One" project. The roof of the containment of the K2 generator unit was hoisted at the Karachi Nuclear Power Plant on June 17, 2019, and the cold test of the nuclear circuit core of the K2 generator unit started on June 22 the same year, marking the end of the installation of the nuclear island's main supporting system.
