Updated: 2019-06-19

The Belomonte Transformer Substation in Luanda, Angola, contracted by Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), recently went into service.

As a significant livelihood project, the substation will meet the power demands of more than two million residents in Luanda, which will improve local people's living conditions.

The substation went into operation as a part of the electrification and power connection project in Luanda under the framework of cooperation between the governments of China and Angola.

The loans for the project were provided by China Development Bank (CDB).

The main missions of the project include construction of nine 60kV substations, a 50-kilometer 60kV aerial power transmission line, a 500-kilometer urban middle-voltage transmission line, a 50-kilometer middle-voltage buried cable, a 2,200-kilometer low-voltage aerial wire, a 145-kilometer low-voltage buried cable, 700 box-type transformers and 300 pole mounted transformers.

What's more, PowerChina is also providing 5,750 kilometers of wires that connect the households to the power network and installation of pre-paid power meters in 300,000 houses.

PowerChina has signed 322 projects in 17 regions in Angola since 2004.

The signed projects cover many industries, including water conservancy and hydropower, power transmission and distribution circuits, oil fired power plant construction, urban water supply, municipal engineering and building of highways, bridges, airports, schools, hospitals, markets, stadiums and accommodation.
