MS Highway Constructed by PowerChina Opens to Traffic

Updated: 2019-06-17

It only takes half an hour to go from Miladinovci to Stip in Macedonia now that the Miladinovci-Stip (MS) Highway has opened to two-way traffic.

As part of the Pan-European Corridor VIII, the 47.1 km MS Highway in the Republic of North Macedonia, constructed by Sinohydro Bureau 7 Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina), is a two-way four-lane road made of asphalt concrete with a designed speed of 100 km/h.

Started on May 2, 2014, the main construction included 45 km of roadbed, 7 interchangeable overpasses, 39 bridges, 115 pipes culverts, and 25 box culverts.

The MS Highway, as an important project of the Belt and Road Initiative in the Balkans, is also the first large-scale infrastructure project under the framework of China and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation.

The project marks that the special loan of $10 billion for China and CEEC cooperation has borne practical fruits which will play a positive role in deepening the friendly cooperation between China and the Republic of North Macedonia.
