CNNC Masters Mass Production of Hualong One's Fuel Elements

Mass production of the CF3 nuclear fuel elements was realized on May 10, strengthening China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC)'s core competitiveness in the nuclear fuel industry and supporting the export of Hualong One, China's third generation nuclear power technology.

Developed by CNNC, the fuel elements required mass application of N36 zirconium and breakthroughs in key manufacturing skills like zirconium alloy fuel rods and a bottom socket.

Nuclear fuel elements are core components of a nuclear power station. Continuous improvement of the skills in their manufacture is an effective way to improve a station's safety, reliability and economical efficiency, and to expand local applications and export of China's nuclear power technology.
