An agreement on the construction of a metro line in southwestern Moscow was signed between China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) and a company affiliated to the Moscow Architectural Institute in Russia on April 16, local time.
The project has the highest value among the metro projects CRCC has contracted in Russia.
The 6.4-kilometer section, worth 27 billion rubles ($419 million) will connect the downtown of Moscow and Kommunarka, a southwestern suburb of the city, with three stations set up along the line.
The metro line will relieve traffic pressure and provide convenience for local residents' travel.
Before this project, CRCC also constructed the third transfer line in southwestern Moscow, which was the first time a Chinese company had been engaged in this kind of construction in a European country.
It was also a chance for the full Chinese engineering industrial chains including equipment, technology, design and standards to enter the European market.
According to CRCC, the company will strictly follow the requirement of related departments in Russia and will implement secure quality management to complete the construction on schedule.
Five shield tunneling machines developed to function in the low temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius will be adopted during the construction. They can dig as far as 21 meters in 12 hours and 35 meters a day, figures confirmed by the owner of the project and the general contractor.
To show their respect to the Chinese constructors, the Russian government agreed to add some traditional Chinese patterns in the design of the Michurinsky Station as authorized by Russia's highest design management institute.
Some Chinese and Russian press said the station will become a new landmark of China-Russia friendship.
