Chinese Central SOE Contributes to Pakistan's Longest Expressway

Updated: 2019-04-15

The Abdul Hakeem-Lahore Motorway in Pakistan, the longest and smartest expressway in Pakistan, recently went into service.

As a national motorway carrying the most of the government investment in the country, it was contracted by China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation which is affiliated to China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC).

The 230-kilometer six-lane motorway has a designed speed of 120 kilometers per hour and is an important section of the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway.

It was jointly constructed by the consortium of China Railway 20 Bureau Group Corporation and a Pakistan company using the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) mode.

The Chinese central SOE sent more than 300 technicians and management staff members to Pakistan since the project started in 2016, who helped to set several engineering and construction records in Pakistan.

The road opened 80 days before scheduled completion and was spoken highly of by the local government and residents.

During the construction, the Chinese company made full use of the local resources and recruited many Pakistani managers and technicians.

Forty-two special training lectures were held and more than 3,000 local staffers obtained skills which helped them develop into skilled workers.

In addition, many Pakistani vehicles and transporters were used during the project, which provided related employments.

It's worth mentioning that the Abdul Hakeem-Lahore Motorway also plays a role in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and is a main road for people in China and other Central Asian countries traveling to Karachi and Gwadar Port.

The highway will drive the economic growth in neighboring areas and promote connectivity and cooperation between them.
