Another Passage Opens for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development

Updated: 2019-04-09

The Nansha Bridge opened for service on April 2, which is a new passage in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area after the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

The bridge was undertaken and designed by CCCC Highway Consultants Co.,Ltd. and was built by CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Company Ltd. and Zhenhua Port Machinery Company (ZPMC).

Two steel box girder suspension bridges and three interchange bridges were contained in the project.

The new bridge in the core of the Pearl River Delta, connecting Guangzhou's Nansha on the eastern side of the Pearl River estuary and Dongguan's Shatian on the west bank.

The Nansha Bridge is the first mega project completed after the release of the Development Plan for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in February.

It is an eight-lane dual carriageway bridge with a length of 12.89 kilometers. It is predicted to be in service for 100 years with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour.

The bridge shortens the travel distance from Guangzhou to Dongguan by 10 kilometers, saving half an hour between the two cities.

It also relieves traffic pressure of traveling across the river and strengthens connections between the two sides, which will promotes economic integration of the Pearl River Delta and support the rapid development of the Nansha Area (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
