The construction of a power grid with a capacity of up to 10 kV started in the Tibet autonomous region on March 26. It will serve areas in extreme poverty. The construction launch confirms that grid construction has been fully begun in remote parts of Tibet.

In March 2018, State Grid Corporation of China held a press conference to announce that 21 billion yuan ($3.13 billion) would be invested in upgrading of grid construction in villages in extreme poverty from 2018 to 2020.

Plans are to construct 66 35kV and above transformer substations and 3,200 kilometers of electric transmission lines capable of transmitting 300,000 kVA.

In addition, about 3,800 kilometers of power transmission lines of a capacity of 10 kV or below are to be built or upgraded.

By the end of 2019, the grid will cover 66 counties and regions and 25,000 people will have electricity.
