State Grid casts eyes on ubiquitous internet of things construction

Updated: 2019-03-22

An overall strategic deployment supporting the development of a ubiquitous internet of things (IoT) has been made by the State Grid Corporation of China.

According to the company, an IoT network will be built on a preliminary basis by the end of 2021, bringing about basic business collaboration and unified management to support the development of grid-connected and emerging businesses.

The ubiquitous IoT is an intelligent service system making full use of modern information technologies and advanced communication techniques such as mobile Internet and artificial intelligence and covering sensing, networks, platforms and applications.

It also has overall perception, efficiency and flexible application capacity to access information in each link of the power system.

With the promotion of the new energy grid and electric power system reform, traditional grid business and companies have been facing more exterior competition pressure and are finding it harder to satisfy users' new demands.

The integration between an intelligent grid and a ubiquitous IoT, as an indispensable link in building an energy network, has been under development by State Grid for over 10 years.

It is expected that companies managing businesses on a ubiquitous IoT industrial chain such as terminal information collectors, cloud platforms and artificial intelligent ventures will benefit from ubiquitous IoT development.
