World’s widest single pylon cable-stayed bridge opens to traffic

Updated: 2019-02-25

The main body of the world's widest single pylon cable-stayed bridge, located in Longhai, Zhangzhou city, Fujian province, recently opened to traffic.

The project was built by a subsidiary of China Communication Construction Co Ltd (CCCC), CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co Ltd.

The super-large bridge is now a key part of Tongcheng Avenue running between Fujian's Xiamen and Zhangzhou.

Spanning the Jiulong River and Shazhou Island, the project has a length of 3.12 kilometers, and consists of the Beixi and Xixi main bridges and the Xixi approach bridge. The Xixi main bridge is the first of its kind in Fujian province with a structure of "a 117-meter leaning tower, a 51-meter ultra-wide mixed beam and twisted back rope".

The opening of the Xixi main bridge marks the successful linkage between Fujian's Tongcheng Avenue and Haixiang Avenue. It helps to facilitate development of a "half an hour economic circle" from Xiamen to Zhangzhou.
