A turn-over ceremony for the Iraqi Huashide power plant, undertaken by Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), was held on Dec 4, meaning that the eight-year construction project has officially finished and been turned over to locals.

The power plant has generated 18 billion kWh annually since the first phrase of the project came online in 2014, accounting for nearly 20 percent of Iraqi power generation. The power station is conducive to alleviating local electricity shortages.

Project construction started in 2010 after the contract was reached in 2007. In August, 2018, the Ministry of Electricity of Iraq signed a final acceptance certificate for the Iraqi Huashide power plant, the first such certificate the Iraqi government has provided.
