Africa's longest suspension bridge opens to traffic

The Maputo–Katembe suspension bridge, Africa's longest suspension bridge, opened to traffic on Nov 10. 

The bridge has a length of 3,000 m with a main span of 680 m. It was constructed by China Road & Bridge Corporation (CRBC), a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC).

The bridge and its related roads connect the Mozambican capital of Maputo, on the northern bank, with a famous resort in Mozambique and border ports of South Africa. 

The bridge across the bay makes communication between the two banks much easier. It will become a main connection channel for Mozambique and South Africa.

The project created than 3,788 jobs for locals and helped train 5,000 residents as technical workers. 

Apart from CRBC many other Chinese companies were engaged in the project including China Highway Engineering Consultants Corporation, CCCC Highway Consultant, and CCCC Second Highway Engineering.
