The role of CSCEC in the upcoming CIIE

Updated: 2018-11-04

The preparatory work of the China International Import Expo (CIIE) is reaching a critical stage as the expo is opening on Nov 5 to last until Nov 10. The exhibition, the last of China's four main diplomatic events this year, is a result of the hard work of all involved parties.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) is one of the expo's devoted supporters. It was responsible for building its venue, the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai between 2013 and 2015.

The center is the world's largest expo premises. China Construction Eighth Engineering Division, a sub-company of CSCEC, shouldered 50 percent of the whole task, constructing auxiliary facilities including three roads and one parking lot.

The clover-shape center "grows up" with new scientific technologies

CSCEC had to finish the project within 20 months. The time limit forced the construction group to change plans and try new technologies.

"Sujiejia", a new type of scaffolding, was first used in China during the construction. It is safe, neat, convenient and energy-saving. The world advanced technology ensured the project was constructed safely and rapidly.

CSCEC's national exhibition center project has collected awards for outstanding Quality Control (QC)s. It won 11 awards at the Shanghai QC achievements launch ceremony, five at the first level and six at the second.

The clover-shape center wins Luban Award

Winning the China Construction Engineering Luban Award, the highest prize for quality in China's construction projects, was CSCEC's aim ever since it won the national exhibition center construction project.

CSCEC applied for the award citing its C1 two-floor exhibition hall and main entrance, which has an area of 0.73 million square meters, half of all the area of the center. The two-floor exhibition hall has an area of 0.21 million sq m and its tiled area is 0.1 million sq m. The C1 hall has over 900 server rooms, more than 50 restrooms, 24 staircases, 24 elevators and 30 escalators.

In 2016, CSCEC won the Luban Award.

The clover-shape center needs innovative engineers

CSCEC's China Construction Eighth Engineering Division is home to disciplined and responsible professional engineers. They never give up when facing tough work.

Shen Jian, current Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the division, was a manager of the national center construction project.

He led his construction group in developing various new technologies. One of them was a construction information platform which can monitor and regulate construction quality, progress and costs.

To date, the exhibition center project has applied for ten national patents and had two approved. About 20 papers regarding the project were written and five of them were published.

China Construction Eighth Engineering Division completed this tough task in just two years, creating the beautiful clover-leaf like National Exhibition and Convention Center to cater to visitors from all over the world.
