It is the first time that Guangzhou province, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR have cooperated to build such a mega sea-crossing transportation project.

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge is known as one of seven wonders of the modern world. It consists of bridges, tunnels and artificial islands. The bridge cost over 100 billion yuan ($ 14.39 billion) and should last for at least 120 years. It can resist even super typhoons.

Ten questions about the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge

1. Why was the bridge necessary?

The bridge shortens the distance between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. The drive from Hong Kong to Zhuhai or Macao used to be three hours but is now only 45 minutes.

The fast and convenient transportation is critical to improving the comprehensive competitiveness of the Pearl River Delta Region, to ensuring sustainable and steady prosperity for Hong Kong and Macao and to developing the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
