Footsteps to the future: Looking back at China's central SOEs on the 40th anniversary of reform and opening-up

Updated: 2018-10-12

2018 is the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up. Over the past 40 years, one "Chinese miracle" after another was created. China has grown into the world's second largest economy, the largest industrial producer, the largest trader of goods and the holder of the largest foreign exchange reserve.

"Thanks to the initiative of Mr. Deng Xiaoping, the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee in 1978 marked the beginning of China's historic journey of reform and opening-up. Our endeavor started from rural areas to cities, from pilot programs to nationwide projects and from economic restructuring to the comprehensive deepening of reform. Reform and opening-up over the past four decades has made great impacts on China. With united and determined efforts, the Chinese people have added a glorious chapter to the development epic of the country and the nation."

Over the past 40 years, Chinese people have made united and strenuous efforts toward the grand goal of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Under the scientific supervision of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC), central enterprises, through deepened reform and innovative development, have made remarkable achievements and created countless milestones of historical significance: Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world's longest crosssea bridge, was completed; Fuxing bullet train, the world's longest high-speed train independently developed by China, was put into use; Chinese-made commercial aircraft C919 took to the sky; aircraft carrier Liaoning entered water; Hualong One nuclear power technology was exported to foreign markets; Tiangong-2 space lab stayed in space; the world's largest Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) was completed and put into operation; and the world's first quantum experiment satellite Micius (Mozi) was successfully launched into space...

These substantial projects carry the dream of Chinese people, crystallize Chinese wisdom, and are wonders that Chinese people are working and will continue to work. We have lived up to this great time and lived up to our historical choices. How time flies! Tremendous changes have taken place in the past 40 years, and those historic moments will stay in our memory!
