CNPC's Halfaya power plant operational in Iraq

Updated: 2018-10-06

Halfaya power plant in Iraq officially went into production at 00:00 Baghdad time on Sept 20.

The plant is now able to balance power allocations between the Halfaya oilfield and local residents.

Halfaya power station made CNPC's dream of building an offshore power plant come true. It is the first power plant owned by CNPC Power Energy Co Ltd constructed and operated overseas.

The company won the bidding for the project on Aug 18, 2017 with a contract amount of 31.2 million dollars and acquired a Provisional Acceptance Certificate (PAC) allowing it to operate commercially on Sept 19, 2018.

The short construction span was attributed to over 30 workers' high efficient efforts. They tackled various problems during the process.

Two 6B gas-generator sets that the construction team carried to the field were also helpful. They not only cut costs but shortened the construction span.
