A guideline for detection and verification based on inverter power supply connecting to the grid was established as a standard-setting project by the New Standards Committee (NesCom) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) on Sept 10.
The project -- IEEE P2800.1 -- was led by the State Grid’s subsidiary Nari Group Corporation, symbolizing that China-developed detection technology for grid connection performance of new energy stations has been recognized internationally. It is a significant step in China’s cutting-edge technology going global.
It is also the first IEEE standard that China set in connecting the renewable energy to the grid and fills a blank in the IEEE’s standards system.
The existing standards system only involves the technical requirements and detection and evaluation methods for connecting micro-grid and distributed generation to the grid but not connecting the renewable energy to the transmission grid.
The new standard specifies the testing conditions, equipment, methods, modeling and simulation verification of new energy stations’ type testing, factory inspection, completion acceptance and commissioning testing.
It provides unified testing and verifying methods and ensures the safe and stable operation of the power system.
In addition to the State Grid, the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), Grant County Public Utility District (GCPUD) and other international enterprises also joined the project, which is expected to be completed in three years.
