China Communications Construction Co Ltd (CCCC) and its subsidiary China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd (CHEC) won the bid to construct the fourth bridge across the Panama Canal in late July. The bridge is expected to improve traffic capacity and logistics for the region.

The contract amount was about $1.52 billion, which makes it the largest Chinese project under construction in Panama.

Many renowned global companies compete to build bridges over the Panama Canal due to its special geological location and technical challenges. The fourth bridge, of super-large dimensions and multiple functions for highway and railway transportation, will require the highest-level construction techniques.

It will connect the main urban area of Panama and the economic zone on the western bank of the canal to improve traffic capacity and enhance economic exchanges between the canal’s two sides.

It will also help boost economic communications between China and Panama and play a positive role in building a shared future for humanity.

The construction period of the bridge is 60 months. Its service life is estimated at 100 years.
