The underground workshop of Baihetan Hydropower Station on the left bank of the Jinsha River was capped on Oct 5, the last of the underground workshops of the world's largest hydropower plant to be completed. Construction of the plant continues.
Home to 16 hydro-generator units with installed unit capacity of 1 million kilowatts with complete proprietary intellectual property rights, the underground workshops are the largest of their kind in the world.
The generator units are scheduled to begin operations in July 2021 and all generator units are expected to start service in July 2022. The capping of the workshops laid a solid foundation for the on-schedule operation of the station.
With a total installed capacity of 16 million kW, the Baihetan Hydropower Station is the world's greatest hydropower project that is still under construction in the world.
With capping completed the builders will now focus on installation of the generator units.
The station was built by China Three Gorges Corporation.
