China Merchants Bank, the first joint-equity commercial bank in the Chinese mainland, was launched in Shekou, Shenzhen, by CMG on April 8, 1987.

It was also China's first pilot bank to promote banking industry reform from the outside state system.

As a subsidiary of CMG, China Merchants Bank now has the fifth-largest market value in the Chinese mainland.
