This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.

In the past 40 years, the GDP of Shenzhen increased from 197 million yuan ($28.64 million) to nearly 2.69 trillion yuan. With nearly 1,000 buildings over 100 meters high and more than 3 million registered commercial bodies, Shenzhen now ranks top among China's large and medium-sized cities.

From a pathfinder of China's opening-up policy to the demonstration zone of the new era, Shenzhen is home to the innovations that keep central SOEs on industry frontiers.

More than 30 tons of explosives were detonated by CCCC Fourth Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Company Ltd. (CCCC) on July 8, 1979, marking the start of the construction of the Shekou Industrial Zone developed by China Merchants Group (CMG).

It was the first construction project since the opening-up policy was implemented and the first step in construction of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone.
