Thailand’s First China-Participated National Highway Opens to Traffic

Updated: 2020-05-28

The right lane of the National Highway 23 (NH23) in Thailand passed inspection and opened to traffic on May 17. The construction of its left lane was to begin.

China Railway 20th Bureau Group Co., Ltd of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC) , participated in the NH23's construction.

Located at Northeast Thailand's Roi Et, the 25.9-kilometer highway is to be renovated into a four-lane road. It is the first national highway built with a Chinese central SOE in the country.

The renovation started in late October of 2018, during which local employment and economic growth were promoted as more than 300 Thai employees were recruited to work for the project and were given technical training.

Upon completion, traffic pressure in northeastern Thailand will be greatly relieved and livelihoods in affected areas are expected to be improved. The renovation will also play a role in promoting Thailand's economic growth.
