China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) and EDP-Energias de Portugal S.A. (EDP), the largest energy provider in Portugal, recently provided critical medical supplies including breathing apparatus and patient monitors to the Ministry of Health of Portugal to help prevent and control COVID-19.
The handover ceremony was held on March 29 at the Portuguese Embassy in Beijing.
At the ceremony, José Augusto Duarte, the Portuguese Ambassador to China, expressed his gratitude for the medical supplies and his respect for China's efforts and measures to combat the pandemic.
He said that Portugal is facing a major outbreak as the pandemic spreads. Many Chinese friends have supported Portugal; CTG was the first to give a hand.
Zhang Dingming, executive vice president of CTG, recalled that EDP offered 200,000 pieces of critical medical supplies to China when the pandemic was raging, which was a great support to the front-line.
"We will never forget the help and now it is our turn to repay."
CTG, joining hands with EDP, purchased the medical machines with the help of China National Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. (Sinopharm). They hoped that the materials will soon be delivered to Portugal and help with the anti-pandemic battle.
CTG is the operator of the world's largest hydropower project – Three Gorges Project. It is also the largest single shareholder of EDP with a 21.47 percent stake, as well as its strategic partner.
