China's First Heavy Self-Elevating, Propelled Wind Farm Installation Vessel Goes into Service

Updated: 2019-12-27

Tie Jian Feng Dian 01, China's first 1,300-ton self-elevating and propelled wind farm installation vessel, was recently delivered to its buyer and started service.

Invested by CRCC Harbour and Channel Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd. (HCEB), the heavy vessel was self designed and manufactured and has complete proprietary intellectual property rights.

With about 2,500 sq m of on-deck operational area, the 105-meter long and 42-meter wide vessel can carry three sets of 6 MW or two sets of 8 MW blower modules and has an endurance of 3,000 nautical miles.

It is worth mentioning that the vessel is the first of its kind to be equipped with a steel helicopter platform which can carry a Zhi-9 (Z-9) utility helicopter and is able to carry emergency rescue and material supply.

Fifty kilometers off shore and capable of operating in 50-meter deep water, the vessel is currently one of the most advanced and best performing offshore wind farm installation vessels in China.

According to Zhen Yisheng, head of the material department at HCEB, the vessel has multiple functions including self-lifting, self propelled transportation, piling engineering, jacking-up and installation, dynamic positioning, oceangoing dispatching, offshore operations and smart construction management.

In addition, its advanced pulley block structure improves elevating speed.

The largest IHC-S3000 hydraulic pile hammer in China and an eight-meter pile carrier are installed on the vessel, making basic pile sinking and installation of the large-scale offshore blower possible.

The vessel is also equipped with DP-2 dynamic positioning and four-point anchoring systems which help to maintain its position in even Grade 16 typhoons.

Operating in extreme weather increases working days and greatly improves construction efficiency as well as safety.

In addition, Chen Yaojin, head of the vessel's construction supervision group, said that the vessel is quite crew-friendly with full WiFi coverage as well as clinics, reading rooms, central air-conditioning, multifunctional ovens, a fresh water drinking machine, washing machines, fitness equipment and IPTV on-demand TV, which greatly improve crews' happiness and sense of being at home.
