CNNC, Russian Enterprises Reach Purchase Agreement at 2nd CIIE

Updated: 2019-11-20

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) signed an agreement on purchasing fuel for the Xudabao power plant's 3/4 units on Nov 6 during the second China International Import Expo (CIIE). The deal deepens China-Russia nuclear power cooperation.

CNNC also held a special signing ceremony with Russian enterprises, at which CNNC Jianzhong Nuclear Fuel Components Co. Ltd and China Nuclear Energy Industry Corp. signed two agreements with Rosatom on purchasing fuel components and transportation casks as well as technology transfer of TVS-2006 fuel.

The China Institute of Atomic Energy, China Nuclear Energy Industry Corp. and the Russian  Mechanical Manufacturing Experiment Bureau reached an agreement on the purchase of three experimental fast reactors.

Nuclear cooperation between the two countries has been promoted as a major part of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era.

For example, CNNC and Rosatom agreed on projects of the No. 7 and 8 units of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station, the Xudabao nuclear power plant and supply, service and purchase of China's demonstration fast reactor facility. At that point, the two countries' nuclear cooperation entered a new stage.

In recent years, CNNC and Rosatom have had a wide range of cooperation. For example, the experimental fast reactor construction and the No. 1 to 4 units of the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station project have been completed and the follow-up processes are proceeding on schedule.
