Updated: 2019-11-19

The fourth unit of the Saudi Arabia Yanbu Phase III 5×660MW Oil-fired Power Plant project was connected to the grid and started operation on Nov 10, bringing all units into production.

Generally contracted by SEPCO III Electric Power Construction Co, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA), the project is the world's largest oil-fired power plant under construction and has been highly spoken of by its buyer and people from all fields.

A major energy project on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, the Yanbu Phase III Oil-fired Power Plant project will play a significant role in adjusting the country's energy arrangement and relieving its power supply shortage.

In addition, it is a major livelihood and political project as its supporting project of seawater desalination will contribute to freshwater supply in the Islamic holy city of Medina, located in the country.

During the construction, more than 18,000 jobs were created and public benefit activities like donations were also organized by the company, which built a sound environment for the project.

To date, the project has produced 1.048 billion kWh of power and 105 million tons of freshwater.
