CRCC Wins FIDIC Awards for 7th Consecutive Year

Updated: 2019-10-11

The Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway was recently awarded as an Outstanding FIDIC Project of 2019, and the Xujiapeng integrated transportation hub of Subway Line 7 in Wuhan, Central China's Hubei province, won the 2019 FIDIC Award of Merit.

The FIDIC Award of Merit, dubbed "the Nobel Prize in the engineering industry", is given by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC).

The outstanding project award-winning project was designed by China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group Co., Ltd. and the merit award was constructed by China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd., both subsidiaries of China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC).

It was the seventh consecutive year CRCC had won FIDIC awards.

To date, 24 projects including the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the Harbin-Dalian high-speed railway and the Shiziyang tunnel of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link, as well as one individual, have been award-winners.

The Xi'an-Chengdu high-speed railway opened to traffic on Dec 6, 2017. It is the world’s first high-speed railway to operate through mountains.

The western section of the railway runs through tunnels for 134 kilometers and has a 45-kilometer section on a 2.5 percent heavy grade road with a direct drop of 1,100 meters. In other words, it's as if the high-speed trains running on the line are rushing in full throttle to the top of a 375-storey buildingin just 23 minutes.

Environmental protection was carefully considered during construction as the railway goes through the Qinling Mountains.

Some natural reserves and water conservation districts were bypassed to preserve their original ecology.

Connecting cities and towns like Hanzhong, Guangyuan and Mianyang, the railway shortens travel time between Xi'an and Chengdu, the two terminals, to four hours and drives development of agriculture and tourism in affected areas.

The Xujiapeng integrated transportation hub of Subway Line 7 is currently the deepest subway station in the city and the world's first underground station serving both road tunnels and metro lines.

Adhering to the principle of going green and environmental protection, advanced technologies and new materials were adopted during its construction.

The hub greatly relieves cross-river traffic pressure in Wuhan and promotes development of the Wuchang Binjiang Business Zone as well as areas along the Yangtze River axis.

In addition, more than 1,000 jobs have been created since its opening.
