Updated: 2019-09-25

A completion ceremony to announce initial operation of the Dau Tieng photovoltaic (PV) solar power project, the largest PV power station in Southeast Asia, was held on Sept 7.

It is also the world's largest PV project located in a semi-immersed area.

Consisting of Phases 1, 2 and 3 and with a total installed capacity of 500 MW, the project is an icon of new energy cooperation between Thailand and Vietnam.

Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA) won the bid and contracted the project in the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) plus financing mode.

POWERCHINA Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited was in charge of the project.

During the 11 months of construction, more than 2,000 staff members were allocated to the site and all work including purchasing, transporting and construction of 20,000-ton brackets, 1.5 million battery panels and more than 200,000 pile foundations were completed with high quality and efficiency.

The project was able to produce electricity on Jun 18, 2019, which was ahead of schedule.
