CNPC Ranks Fifth among Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands in Energy Industry

Updated: 2019-07-15

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), valued at about $9.52 billion, was ranked fifth on BrandZ's Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands of the energy industry, according to the ranking released on June 11.

BrandZ is the world's largest brand equity database and has released the ranking for 14 consecutive years.

In cooperation with BrandZ, the ranking was made by Millward Brown, an international marketing consultancy institute, by looking at financial indexes like the economic benefits and contributions to companies' profits generated by specific brands. The brands' recognition among consumers is also taken into account.

In addition, the ranking also refers to Bloomberg's market data and interviews with more than 3.7 million consumers about roughly 166,000 brands in 50 markets throughout the world.

The interviews contained nearly 290,000 Chinese consumers' opinions on more than 1,100 brands in 75 categories.

The list also suggests that the energy enterprises should continue to strengthen brand construction, improve brand value and promote public brand recognition.

As investments return slowly in the energy industry, the companies should make long-term brand planning in accordance with their business strategies during transformation.

In the brands' building and promotion, energy's function should be connected to people's livelihoods so they can learn about the services and changes brought by the energy enterprises.

Better communication with the public on hot issues would also benefit brand promotion.

The energy enterprises are also advised to lower their environmental impact and make efforts to solve climate change.
