VLCC82, the world's first intelligent carrier, passed its first sea trial and returned on May 29.
Manufactured by Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd. (DSIC), a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), VLCC82 is equipped with five intelligent functions - assisted automatic driving, intelligent liquefied cargo management, integrated energy efficiency management, equipment operation and maintenance and vessel-shore integrated communication.
It was also the first carrier in the world that obtained the i-SHIP and OMBO symbols from the China Classification Society.
During the sea trial, the carrier passed all inspection items with a pass rate of 100 percent.
The carrier was a part of the special project for science and technology research of intelligent carriers.
Its successful maiden voyage signaled that the world's first 300,000-ton very large intelligent crude carrier was ready to sail.
In addition, VLCC82 is not only a milestone of the development of intelligent carriers, but also a new era for DSIC in very large crude oil tanker manufacturing.
