CETC48 Develops Egypt's First Polycrystal Solar PV Cell

Updated: 2019-05-28

The first polycrystal solar photovoltaic (PV) cell in Egypt was developed and produced by the 48th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC48) on May 20.

The research and development line of the polycrystal solar PV cell is a main part of the construction of the China-Egypt National Joint Laboratory on Renewable Energy.

Covering seven working procedures and 65 sets of professional photovoltaic devices of more than 20 categories, the research and development line is the first in Egypt that covers all solar PV cell production links.

What's more, all equipment and technical skills were manufactured and developed by China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.

Located in northeastern Africa, 95 percent of Egypt is covered by desert and semi-desert. Innate natural features like strong sunlight, heavy wind and rich biomass energy make the country an ideal place to develop new energy.

The joint laboratory helps the development of Egypt's renewable energy industries and the "going global" of China's photovoltaic equipment, technology and standards and at the same time supports the implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative.

The laboratory is also listed in the Joint Statement on Strengthening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the People's Republic of China and the Arab Republic of Egypt.

During the construction of the laboratory, nearly 20 scientific researchers were sent by the Chinese side to Egypt and it took almost 200 days to adjust the facilities and give technical training, which let the Egyptian side see the Chinese company's sincerity and capacity in science and technology cooperation under the frame of the Belt and Road Initiative.
