Myanmar Kyaukse 145 MW Gas Fired Power Plant Ready to Operate

Updated: 2019-05-28

Construction of the Myanmar Kyaukse 145 MW Gas Fired Power Plant in Mandalay was completed on May 17.

The project was generally contracted by the third engineering division of SEPCO Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO), which is a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA).

Myanmar is now seriously short of electricity and the operation of the plant will relieve 2.7 million people's power shortage situation with its annual power generating capacity of 1.27 billion kWh of clean power.

In addition to the plant construction, the third engineering division of SEPCO has also been devoted to drive the development of the affected areas since it signed its first EPC contract in the country and has provided more than 30,000 jobs.

Meanwhile, the company has built infrastructure like libraries for free in local neighborhoods and regularly sent living supplies like food and oil to temples, which improved the company's reputation in the country.

In recent years, the Myanmar government made efforts to develop the electric power industry to promote social and economic development and proposed a goal of realizing electrification nationwide by 2025.

While POWERCHINA's participation in Myanmar's power construction contributes to solving the country's electricity shortage, infrastructure cooperation between China and Myanmar is also a key part of the Belt and Road construction as well as a backbone of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor.
