The world's heaviest refining industry regenerator equipment was recently hoisted as part of the Dangote refinery and petrochemical project in Nigeria.
The regenerator itself weighs 2,760 tons; adding the weight of the supporting devices including the lifting hook and the balance beam brings the total weight to 3,000 tons.
The regenerator is 56.22 meters high with a diameter of 21.08 meters and was installed on a resid fluid catalytic cracking (RFCC) device.
It took 4 hours to remove and rotate the saddle, adjust the installation angle and lift the main equipment.
The project was contracted by China National Chemical Engineering Group Corporation (CNCEC). Hoisting of the regenerator was a pivotal part and the successful installation won high praise from the buyer and the management company.
CNCEC won the project bid, valued at $520 million, on Feb 1, 2018. It includes the construction of four core equipment components for refining .
The project is the largest individual refining program in Nigeria and the world. The facility will be able to refine 650,000 barrels of original oil per day when it is completed, producing 20 million tons of oil annually.
